How To Identify A DoFollow Blog
Reward Rebel’s last post Link Building With Comments On DoFollow Blogs raised some points that I’d like to address now. After all, you need to know how to identify DoFollow blogs before you can begin to comment on them!
Recently, one of my commenters introduced me to the Firefox Addon, SEO Quake, and now I’m a massive fan of this phenomenal web tool!
The above screenshot shows SEO Quake’s settings options’ drop-down menu, from which you can clearly see the data you can access for at-a-glance viewing. The simplest thing to do is select all the options that are ticked in the screenshot.
To make it super easy to identify a DoFollow blog, you just need to select ‘Line through nofollow and noindex’ then every link that displays on your browser that is NOT DoFollow will have a line through it. Not very visually appealing, but you can always toggle it on and off as and when you are selecting sites for commenting or not.
SEO Quake also allows you to see the following data about any blog or website that you open in Firefox:
- Internal and external links
- nofollow or DoFollow
- Google Page Rank
- Alexa Traffic Rank
- Keyword density
- Yahoo links and rank
- Publisher ID of Adsense et al
- Age of website
- IP address
Even more valuable is that the keyword density tool allows you to load Google keyword data for Adwords Pay Per Click advertising.
This is one of the most valuable free web tools I’ve encountered and it has to be a ‘must have’ for all webmasters or bloggers. So, go and download SEO Quake and be amongst those who benefit from the vital data by utilising the docked toolbar and/or what’s called SEObar and floats at the head of each web page. I use the toolbar because I find the floating SEObar obstructs the presentation of the website being viewed.
SEO Quake will definitely help your Internet Marketing ambitions!

My SEO expert friends have mixed opinions on SEO Quake. The major complaint I’ve heard is that it’s not all that accurate. The ones who like it say they use it as a quick reference for general ideas on metrics like in-bound links. The ones who don’t like it say it is so far off that they don’t find it useful at all.
Per your positive review, I’m going to install it and play around with it a bit. Thanks for taking the time to review the tool!

Inaccurate? The basic cross-checking I’ve conducted hasn’t identified any discrepancies in the data, but I haven’t intensively utilised its more advanced aspects.
I’m no SEO expert but, overall, I’ve found SEO Quake incredibly useful for the at-a-glance data it provides instantly. To my mind, if it can do even more, that’s a bonus!
Hope it helps you out, too!

Nothing is 100% accurate. Google themselves proves that in spades with their in-bound link tracking which SUCKS big time. LOL
SEOQuake is awesome, although I don’t see the point behind the floating bar. All it shows different from the toolbar is whether or not you use robots.txt and a site map…..which btw, you don’t tsk tsk Layne.

Hey, Dennis, I’m back from the dead!
You’ve hit on one instance of inaccurate data by SEO Quake that I’d forgotten all about it. Rewardrebel.com/blog does have a site map, but Quake looks for one at rewardrebel.com, altho it picks up the PR for rewardrebel.com/blog - I don’t know if these settings can be accessed and edited.

I’ve been finding Firefox’s NoDoFollow Plugin to be very useful for identifying DoFollow blogs.

Hey, thanks for sharing this post. I’m pretty new to blogging and this certainly helps. I think people shouldn’t be discouraged to post comments on blogs if they are a nofollow blog. It’s important to build relationships with the writers and be able to express your opinion. Some folks follow really good comments while they do not follow the ones that don’t add anything to the conversation or post. I’m already using this Firefox addon thanks to you.
