Entrecard Russian Roulette
No doubt I’m shooting myself in the foot here, but during my absence from posting to Reward Rebel blog, I sporadically logged into Entrecard, and there was always a queue of advertisers waiting for approval to display their little promo box on my site.
Curiously, quite often the advertiser wouldn’t have dropped their card on my site on the day they submitted the request… or at all recently.
Firstly, I’d like to thank those advertisers for their loyalty.
Secondly, however, I have to express my concern about how many of the Entrecard community don’t appear to visit a website prior to submitting an advertising request.
In a sense, it is flattering to my blog that a repeat advertiser trusts the content-to-date to be enough, but if there hasn’t been any new content for weeks, why does anyone wish to advertise on a site that’s dormant?
Hey, I’m not biting the hand that feeds me…. er, I suppose I am, but that’s not the point. I’m inclined to infer from the lack of a card being dropped that the advertiser just couldn’t be assed!
Perhaps I’m going about this the wrong way…. “Hey, amigo, WAKE UP!”.
Why aren’t you checking out the websites where you advertise?
It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve advertised on a website, I check it out before submitting a further request. You shouldn’t take anything for granted.
This isn’t the first time I’ve noticed blogs that haven’t posted for months still continue to advertise on Entrecard… as though this is somehow the same thing as maintaining an online business.
Recently, I had to reject an ad request from a website that hadn’t posted fresh content since March! The disquieting aspect was that it was a website dealing with financial markets and their changeability. How can I justify displaying an ad encouraging my readership to visit a site that doesn’t offer anything new for three months… a quarter of a year!
Don’t be complacent, don’t be loyal for the sake of it. If you aren’t involved in internet marketing per se, and participate in Entrecard for the social aspects, you are fortunate that none of what I’ve said here really applies to you, because you have a different agenda.
But if you’re involved in internet marketing and/or blogging to be making money with an online business, it’s all the more important.
You need to constantly monitor where and with whom you advertise, because the internet changes so fast, you may get left behind!
I wish you enjoyable blogging and successful internet marketing!

I agree with you 100%. I am also always amazed at those who consistently drop their card on my site and yet don’t bother to update their own blog. I’m always surprised to see that people are willing to advertise on sites that haven’t updated their content since April!

I actually read the same things around. About these dormant sites but most Entrecard members just don’t mind them as long as the site is on the top of their respective niche. Moreover, other just don’t have enough time to view sites, especially if the price is not that much.
However, i for one, i don’t advertise much. But when i do, things such as EC positioning matter to me. It must be rightly visible when someone visit the site where I have to advertise.
This is a very good point you have presented. As for repeat advertisers, i don’t find much for mine because as the price of the ads go up, different level of advertisers can afford them, thus, for me, it is simply understandable that the adsvertisers change.

I think a big part of this is the power droppers. This inflates the “authority”, to use technorati’s lingo, and one hopes to get lots of hits.
I find that loyalty to any one advertiser can be hard, as the rates skyrocket. I have spent over 1000 credits on some of my best performing ads though.
I think you make a good point.

You beat me to the post! i have recently become a PRIME example of “how many of the Entrecard community don’t appear to visit a website prior to submitting an advertising request.”
I have recently started 3 more blogs. A sister blog to the one you see now, sort of an add-on to the one you see now, and my more personal DennisEdell.com - there’s no need to go to any of them yet as there isn’t much there, which is exactly my point.
On each one I have the initial “grand opening” post, about page, contact page, etc….just getting them all set up to launch.
Now I did link them all to EC as I have a certain “order” in which I set up blogs. It would look funny to me and bother me until I did it, so I did.
One of them I remember I had an advertiser email waiting for me within mere minutes of linking it.
This leads me to one conclusion…those EC’rs that simply search “cheapest” and hit advertise across the board until their credits run out…not even glancing at the blog.
Ya know what? I’ve accepted every one so far, barely looking myself. If they won’t take a few seconds to look, I will take the credits and be on my merry way.
Perhaps it will strike a few of them when I do launch and start marketing…all of a sudden a lot of them will be getting rejects stating “not relevant” or whatever.
Is this wrong? Perhaps on some level. But, if you’re going to be THAT lazy…I appreciate the donations

I also think it is very strange when people spend so much time dropping when they have not updated their blog in weeks or months. What’s the point?

I don’t get that either. I also don’t get the number of blogs that are in my inbox that haven’t updated their blog in months yet they drop on me every day.
I can see taking a vacation from blogging from time to time to recharge the batteries, but to engage in activities that involve the blog, but not update it is odd at the very least.

I agree…people seem to forget that they have EC because they have blogs (at least the majority) and not they blog because there is entrecard, right?

I don’t have much time, but I atleast drop on the sites that want to advertise on my site and I try to visit 10 new sites for each of my sites each day. But I’ve noticed a lot of sites that have removed their entrecard code but are still in the database
Anyways, enjoy the site, luv your using commentluv.
