Making Money Online With No Internet Access

If you’re wondering what became of the competition I started to publicize last week, and which is also emblazoned across my Entrecard — it hasn’t been abandoned.

For the past month I’ve been wrangling with my internet service provider, because I’ve been experiencing frequent, intermittent loss of internet access and, en route, have almost lost what remains of my sanity! During the past few days, things have reached a head, and I’ve barely had enough time to focus on my blog or my business activities.

As I’ve already reported, Reward Rebel has just reached Entrecard’s Internet Marketing Top 3 and although it’s never a good time to lose internet access, this is particularly bad timing. I’d prefer to be capitalizing on this unexpected achievement, instead of rebooting modems and snarling down the phone at call centre operators.

It has cost me a small fortune in down time and phone calls via my mobile (too much interference to use the land line), on top of which I’ve been subjected to a degree of distress that’s reduced me to tears more than once.

To rub salt in the wound, I’ve just received a reminder for my last bill, which threatens to disconnect services if payment isn’t received immediately! It’s amazing how quickly they grab their money, even when they haven’t been providing the service for which they are claiming it!

Internet Marketing Top Spot

I was thrilled when Reward Rebel reached the Number 3 spot in Entrecard’s Internet Marketing category last week, and today it was elevated to Number 2, although it’s been shifting between 2 and 3 all day.

If the Number 1 blog wants to remain at the top of the podium, it’d best watch its back. Yimto — I’m a-coming for you!

Traffic has increased noticeably since occupying a top 3 spot, and this has been enormously helpful, as I don’t have a great deal of advertising happening at present. My grateful thanks for the boost, both to my regular readership and Entrecard droppers.

Well, I can’t spend any more precious time waffling about how brilliant I am – I have to arrange some advertising.

Blogging Widget Fun

Although Reward Rebel has existed since last August, I’ve only applied myself to learning Wordpress (PHP), and how to use CSS in the last month or two, and as yet I have no idea how widgets and plug-ins are constructed.

But I’m satisfied with the progress that I’ve been making generally — each day empowers me a little more, and soon I’ll begin designing my own unique theme for Reward Rebel.

Dane Carlson’s widget, “How Much Is Your Blog Worth? is displayed on many blogs, resulting in people referring to him as ‘the most successful link baiter ever’!

According to the version of the widget displayed on Dane’s own website, his blog is worth $6,220,101.72.

I have no idea how this value is calculated, however, when we don’t understand something, we destroy it. Isn’t that the way of the world these days? Ooops, sorry wrong article, I’m not on a rant today!

The widget isn’t dynamic, and it isn’t going to update as your blog increases in value, so why not have some fun tweaking it to say whatever we fancy?

After playing around with a variety of exaggerated statements, I finally decided on the message you see above.

Entrecard Advertising Tip

A brief word about advertising, and a tip, which I have found particularly useful when determining whether or not an Entrecard blog is a good choice to place an ad. I’ve paid less than 64ECs for an ad, and received dozens of clicks thru, and I’ve paid around 500ECs and received barely 10. There have also been quite a few from which there has been a big fat ZERO in clicks.

If you want to get the best return on your investment, you need to do a little digging.

The simplest thing to do is download the Alexa Ranking Toolbar onto your browser, and you’ll be able to tell-at-a-glance whether or not a website has sufficient traffic rank to validate advertising there.

But don’t stop at that. The ranking is an average over the past three months, and what you now need to ascertain is whether that flow of traffic is on the increase or decline.

By clicking the toolbar, you are presented with options to view Site Traffic Details, which will show you the traffic levels the site has received in the last week, and this can often make a huge difference to whether or not the website is worth your investment.

You can save yourself a lot of cash or credits, not to mention disappointment, just by applying this one simple check when you’re weighing up advertising options.

I am in an exhuberant mood, and it’s because I’ve dreamt up one helluva brilliant Making Money Online Competition for you. It’s guaranteed to blow your socks off and curl your toes! Yep, it’s THAT good.

Blogs that frequently run contests have totally won my admiration, I had no idea of how much work is involved, and I’ve only just started. The ‘to do’ list is growing at an alarming rate, with every thought that pops into my head.
